Admittedly, it's never stopped them before. If you want to use something experimental, give RoadHouse a go. At least you know that one person is using it production (me). The problem with using Streams in production is that at this moment there is nothing else on the planet that knows how to communicate over Nomad2; and I'm not even certain that Streams does because testing is nowhere near complete.

Matrix is not XMPP version 2. Both protocols have very similar goals, but they have very different designs, and are developed by different people.

Both projects are active and one is not a replacement of the other. A third project with similar goals as Matrix and XMPP is Delta Chat - except instead of inventing a new protocol they are building on top of email.

All three systems are active open federated networks built around open-source software.

I found this thing while going through a box that's been stashed away for a while. Some kinda camera + mp3 player combo that I acquired while working at a thrift store operation some years ago. Just gotta put some batteries in it and see if it turns on...

I was previously using Shaarli for saving my links/bookmarks, when it suddenly occurred to me... "duh, I can just use a dedicated channel on zap or hubzilla for the same purpose."

One less installed thing. ðŸ˜€

It works amazingly well on mobile too by sharing from the browser to Nomad app (or even AndStatus actually).

@chava Ok, Thanks, I was not aware of that - I only tried nomad so far, but that is a major factor.

@Zap The more I learn about the history of Zot-ware, the more impressed I am by the amount of contributions in- and outside wherever it lacked and the diligence of the mind(s) behind. Sad to see the lack of resonance from other projects, but I am glad every day to roll with Zot-ware :) Thanks for all the great work and time!

If I was looking for a quick way to solve the problem of having an app on Android, I wouldn't waste my time with all these microblog APIs and Mastodon clients. I'd create a "Progressive Web App". It's actually the most sane choice because the browser is our platform. We didn't build an API based platform for good reasons. Any API client is going to lack integrated WebDAV and OpenWebAuth (*) and these things are actually what makes these projects interesting.

(*) Except util/zotsh/zotsh.py is a nice little python CLI which demonstrates how to support both client side. I've updated that very recently so best to use it from the dev branch.

I'm not going to pursue this personally, but here's what I can tell you about fedilab from my brief look at the code...

It appears that Friendica behaviour is triggered in a couple of places. One is the nodeinfo project name. This can be set in the statistics addon or fork fedilab and change it there. The second is the presence of 'cid' in the user response. Just copy the 'id' element on or near line 249 of the twitter api addon and change it to 'cid'. There are also a couple of Friendica specific API calls which could be emulated. I don't know how important they are because I don't know what they do.

But you could fork the code and try it in an Android simulator and maybe push the fork somewhere once it's working. I had it working for hubzilla once but that was long ago and I've lost track of what hard disk I kept it on.

AndStatus mostly works - if you like microblog presentations. If there's something you'd like to see improved on our side, let me know. If it's on the AndStatus side, I can't help you. The developer of that project always locks horns with me for some unknown reason - so you're on your own.

As I'm watching the haze thickening, I thought of one involving some sort of additive in the fireworks that would result in the smoke being a potent toxin that would results in hundreds of thousands of deaths around the country on the 4th of July.
